fish market cafe, pyrmont

Sydney's Fish Markets are always packed with workers, families, tourists, and people shopping for seafood and filled with the sound of waters, seagulls and giant pelicans. It's almost impossible for us to find an empty table and bench inside the arcade.

It wasn't noon yet when I took the picture below so we went to feast on some freshly shucked oysters from Christie's Seafood Excellence opposite this Fish Market Cafe. But when we finished, it was a little past noon and the place was packed.

I wish I could have fit more in my stomach, I really wanted some prawn skewers, more grilled scallops and calamari.

seafood platter for 2 ($32.50):

The platter includes 2 grilled scallops, an oyster mornay, an oyster kilpatrick, BBQ baby octopus, calamari rings, fish pieces, prawns, seafood sticks and your choice of either chips or rice. It was an extra 50c for the two tartare sauce packets. The calamari rings were crispy and stringy and the grilled scallops were so fragrant and it practically melted in your mouth - it was so good. The battered prawns were so juicy and the meat of the fish was so tender. I'm not a fan of crab sticks but these seafood sticks were tasteless at first but after chewing on it, it was actually really nice. The octopus was chewy and bouncy but could have had a teensy bit more flavouring on it.

Although its a platter for two, it was more than enough for 4 people to be completely full - the serving is very generous. Can't wait to come back!

Hi there! My name is Anna. I'm nineteen, in my second year of uni (UNSW) and born in Sydney. This blog is about my gastronomic adventures in Australia and abroad. It all started when I got new camera (Samsung Ex1) and since then, I've been mainly taking photos of food. So, I decided to document everything on this blog.

I'm still learning to take nice pictures - my camera isn't exactly the greatest but it works.

Oh, and I think we should get this out of the way (just in case you decide to unfriend me) I'm not a fan of chocolate or coffee. (Yes you saw right).

Anyway, enough about me - thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!
