I've finally jumped on to the bandwagon and got myself a cronut from Brewtown Newtown!

Brewtown is a popular cafe located on a quiet street in Newtown. The cafe has been on my wishlist since I first saw all the cronut photos on Instagram so naturally, I was really excited about coming here but at the same time, I was definitely not looking forward to the long wait. We arrived just before midday and had to wait a little over 45 minutes. The waft from the cronuts were killing my insides.


The cafes offers a very interesting lunch and breakfast menu along with some pastries and great coffee.

It's a very dimly lit, industrial-like warehouse with high ceilings. The soft hum from the diners along with the friendly nature of the cafe staff made the atmosphere seem extremely relaxing.

mocha ($3.50):
We started off with a mocha and there were no complaints about its quality. I'm loving the Instagramable coffee art.

black sausage ($16.00):
Grilled black sausage, home made hash browns, Canadian bacon and house relish with boiled egg. It was my first time having black sausages and I thought they would have an offaly, pigs blood or bone marrow texture or taste but I was wrong!

These sausages were perfectly charred, slightly smokey in flavour, chewy on the outside and tender in the inside. The bacon didn't feel very fatty and the hash browns were crunchy on the outside and super fluffy on the inside. The tomato relish definitely helped cut through the heaviness of this dish. I did however find the the eggs a tad bit overcooked but that aside, I loved everything on this plate.

elvis burger ($16.50):
Ground beef, savoury cronut, Canadian bacon, gruyere and mayo served with chips and relish. I don't usually fall in love with cafe style burgers but this was another great dish. The cronut itself was fluffy and flaky. Throw in a tender, juicy beef patty, bacon, melted gruyere, some crunchy fat chips and you've got a winner. Once again, the side of sweet and tangy tomato relish definitely helped cut down the oiliness of the whole dish.

beetroot cured ocean trout ($16.50):
Beetroot cured ocean trout, avocado smash, rye sour dough toast, dill, persian feta and beetroot relish. I was never a huge fan of beetroot but I couldn't decide whether I liked this dish better or the grilled black sausages better. The flavour of the ruby ribbons of trout was just lovely and definitely paired well with all the elements of this dish. I think I would definitely come back and order this in the Summer or Spring time.

glazed cronut ($4.50):


We ended the meal by sharing Brewtown's infamous glazed cronut. The donut/croissaint is deep-fried, coated in sugar and glazed - if you're a fan of Krispy Kreme glazed donuts, you will love these! I just couldn't get enough of the fluffy and buttery layers.

If you're ever in the area, Brewtown Newtown is definitely worth visiting. You might want to come a bit earlier or later to avoid the long lines. I will definitely come back soon since I still want to try their cripsy fried blue eye cod, corned beef hash, squid ink linguine both their cinnamon and jam cronuts. (Er, basically, I want to go through their whole menu). Their portions are also very reasonable for the price and the staff are just so friendly - there's nothing not to like about Brewtown Newtown!

Hi there! My name is Anna. I'm nineteen, in my second year of uni (UNSW) and born in Sydney. This blog is about my gastronomic adventures in Australia and abroad. It all started when I got new camera (Samsung Ex1) and since then, I've been mainly taking photos of food. So, I decided to document everything on this blog.

I'm still learning to take nice pictures - my camera isn't exactly the greatest but it works.
