xs espresso, wetherill park

Sydney's latest extreme milkshake craze has just hit the relatively new cafe, XS Espresso. The latest addition to Western Sydney's cafe brunch scene, insta-famous for their beastly milkshakes.

I sincerely hope XS doesn't stand for extra small because this tiny cafe seriously needs to expand to accommodate the huge lines that form for the food and milkshakes every weekend. Plus, it certainly isn't XS in terms of popularity. It was easily the busiest store in the open air complex.

Now, we both know why you're here. Give me a drum roll.

... Introducing XS's super milkshakes!

From left to right, we have the 'Monster', the 'Volcano' and the 'Superstar'.

Judging by the name, you can probably guess that the 'Volcano' is easily the most theatrical of them all. Upon stabbing the chocolate lava cake through with your plastic straw, chocolate oozes out from the sides and into the drink, enhancing the chocolate flavour.

The Superstar awakens your inner child self with colourful M&Ms, Maltesers, Kitkats and whipped cream. Definitely fun to eat!

Monster Milkshake

It may look a tad bit excessive but this monster of a milkshake definitely exceeded my expectations. Not only were the chocolate toppings tasty (it is impossible for oreos and tim tams to taste bad), the waffles weren't too sweet, crispy and fluffy, while the whipped cream and condensed milk gradually merged into the milkshake, creating a lovely and decadent chocolate concoction.

But it's not just about the milkshakes here at XS, take a look at their food.

Omelette ($15.00):
Choice of any 3 toppings with served with sourdough toast
This omelette didn't make it onto XS's online list of signature dishes but it totally deserves a spot.

I decided on the classic combination of mushrooms, spinach and bacon with a side of smashed avocado. The rashers of bacon were hearty, salty, crisp and wonderful against the fluffy omelette filled with perfectly cooked mushrooms and spinach. The lime dressed avocado completed each bite with a smooth and subtle tang.

As simple as this dish sounds, it's easy to mess up. But XS makes it super satisfying and delicious.

Delicious Dean ($15.00):
Avocado, fresh cherry tomtoes on sourdough with goats cheese, prosciutto, basil pesto and poached egg

A layer of basil pesto on toasted sourdough, topped with fresh cherry tomatoes, smashed avocado, pungent goat's cheese, silky proscuitto and perfectly poached eggs. You can't go wrong with this choice either!

XS is definitely a great spot for locals to enjoy classic breakfast dishes and milkshakes without having to travel too far. If I were in the area again, I'd definitely return to try their lunch menu.

Hi there! My name is Anna. I'm nineteen, in my second year of uni (UNSW) and born in Sydney. This blog is about my gastronomic adventures in Australia and abroad. It all started when I got new camera (Samsung Ex1) and since then, I've been mainly taking photos of food. So, I decided to document everything on this blog.

I'm still learning to take nice pictures - my camera isn't exactly the greatest but it works.

Oh, and I think we should get this out of the way (just in case you decide to unfriend me) I'm not a fan of chocolate or coffee. (Yes you saw right).

Anyway, enough about me - thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!
